Brittany’s Pear Jam
My nephew Jake and his new bride, Brittany, live in the house she grew up in here in town. When I was visiting them early this summer, I noticed they had an old pear tree in their yard. I asked Brittany if she’d mind if I harvested them in the fall, and she gave me the thumbs up. She said they were always good tasting pears.
She kept an eye on them, checking to see when they were approaching ripeness. By early October, I was able to pick them. That’s why this year’s creation is called Brittany’s Pear Jam. We tried something new with pears from a tree she enjoyed when she was a child.
I’m pretty sure these are Anjou pears. The jam is flavorful and sweet, with a smooth texture atypical of many pear jams. I love it on a toasted English muffin with a little bit of butter.
Thank you, Brittany. XO.
