Black Raspberry Jelly

I’m just gonna put it out there and be honest. Our black raspberry jelly is one of my two favorites. I’ve loved it since Mom made it with the fruit from the same vines I’m now picking in the thicket at the front of the house.

So if you’ve received a jar of this rich-tasting treat, you’re special. That’s all there is to it.

Dad’s black raspberry plants produced beautifully once again this year. They managed to get the rain they needed before the drought period started. I got four good pickings from them this year, and I’m grateful for all of them.

There’s something I love about putting on old camo pants, a long-sleeve shirt and boots and tramping down over the bank into the thicket to pick these beautiful berries. It’s like a treasure hunt of sorts. And it’s so worth it in years like this when there’s lots of treasure on those vines.

Ingredients: fresh blackberry juice, lemon juice, sugar, natural fruit pectin
